Pearl Laser
The Pearl Laser is Advanced DermCare’s newest resurfacing laser. This state of the art laser is useful in treating wrinkles, sun damage, uneven skin texture and acne scarring. It has been approved by the FDA for treatment of wrinkles. The Pearl laser requires much less ‘down time’ than traditional resurfacing lasers so you can go back to the things you like to do much faster. Most patients find that their down time is only 3-4 days with the Pearl, as compared with 10 or more days with other laser treatments. The Pearl delivers heat deep into the layers of the skin and may actually help to strengthen the collagen that provides structure and firmness to the skin.

Titan® Non-surgical Tissue Tightening
Titan is an innovative non-surgical light-based procedure that achieves safe, highly effective skin tightening without downtime. The procedure uses a combination of infrared light to heat the dermis (the deeper, collagen-rich layer of your skin) and surface contact cooling to minimize discomfort while protecting the skin’s outer layer. Titan® is designed to treat loose and sagging skin such as abdominal striae (stretch marks), jaw laxity, deep frown lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin in areas such as the neck, chest, arms, thighs, breasts and buttocks. Significant skin tightening may be noted after anywhere from one to a series of treatments, depending on the level of skin laxity in the treated areas. Treatments are well tolerated, with minimal discomfort. Immediately after treatment, you may notice mild redness and/or swelling in the treatment area, however this typically fades within a few hours. Normal activity can be resumed immediately after treatment.

BLUE Light® Acne Treatment
Acne is caused by a combination of factors, including excessive sebum (oil) production, blockage of pores, and overgrowth of a bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes. Traditional therapies such as topical and oral antibiotics reduce acne inflammation by suppressing growth of P. acnes bacteria. In contrast, BLUE-light® phototherapy directly kills the P. acnes in your skin and oil glands by interacting with a substance produced by the bacteria called protoporphyrin IX (PPIX). In contrast to oral antibiotics, which travel through your blood stream and can cause unwanted side effects such as skin rashes, gastrointestinal problems, and bacterial resistance to antibiotics, BLUE-light acne treatment works directly on your skin. Patients receive an average of 6 BLUE-light® treatments, administered once or twice a week. Each treatment takes about sixteen minutes, and is associated with no discomfort or downtime. For severe or resistant acne, your physician may suggest adding pre-treatment with topical application of Levulan® (aminolevulinic acid), a photosensitizing drug that enhances the effects of BLUE-light® treatment.

Biologic Agents For Psoriasis: Enbrel®, Raptiva®, Amevive®, Humira®
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease featuring plaques of inflamed, thickened skin with classically silvery scales, most often on the elbows, knees, scalp and torso. Variants of psoriasis may affect the palms and soles, skin folds, or widespread areas. Biologic agents are a new, exciting group of treatments for severe psoriasis that work by selectively blocking the inflammatory cells and processes behind psoriasis. If traditional therapies such as topical steroid ointments, phototherapy (light treatments) and pills such as methotrexate and cyclosporine have failed to control your psoriasis, or if you have psoriasis with associated joint pain (psoriatic arthritis), you may be a candidate for one or several biologic agents. To find out more about these and other exciting new psoriasis treatments, please call our office for a physician consultation.

Levulan Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)® For Actinic Keratoses and Other Skin Disorders
This new exciting treatment uses a combination of light and Levulan® (aminolevulinic acid), a topically applied medication, to treat a wide range of skin conditions including actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous skin lesions) superficial skin cancers, acne, rosacea, prominent oil glands, and photodamaged skin. Levulan PDT® is a promising, FDA-approved treatment for actinic keratoses (AKs), which are rough pre-cancerous skin lesions caused by excessive sun exposure. Levulan PDT® is a two-step procedure. In step 1, we apply a thin layer of Levulan® (aminolevulinic acid HCL) to the sun-damaged areas of your skin. After waiting for 30 minutes to an hour, we then expose you to a safe source of light, which activates the Levulan® to destroy pre-cancerous skin cells. Most patients experience a mild stinging sensation in the treated areas during this stage, followed by temporary redness and swelling. Because Levulan PDT® treatment will make you temporarily more sensitive to sunlight, it is important to avoid bright light during the 24 hours after treatment. We will give you detailed instructions of how to take care of your skin during the treatment process.
